Bellydance is a great dance form for so many reasons. Whilst there are fantastic benefits from any type of dance, Bellydance does have some special things to offer. It’s not only good exercise, its good for your soul, and great for your mental health.
Bellydance celebrates women of all ages and sizes. There is no right or wrong shape for Bellydance. In developing an appreciation of your classmates individual beauty you will also learn to love the unique beauty in you. Body-positivity and a healthy body-image is a big part of the Bellydance ethos.
As women, our bodies shift and change through puberty, pregnancy and ageing. Bellydance gives you the opportunity to see your body through different eyes and discover just how great it is.
IT'S LOW IMPACT & HIGH ENERGY
Whilst there are some particularly tricky moves for the more flexible, the vast majority of Bellydance can be performed by everyone. Students with injuries, arthritis and other conditions that make other forms of exercise or dance difficult, can participate fully in Bellydance classes. Of course, you should always check with your GP before beginning a new form of exercise.
THERE'S SO MUCH VARIATION
With so many styles and different props. there’s always more to learn. The variety of sparkly, intricate and gorgeous costumes mean that you’re bound to find something that suits you. You might also be inspired to start making your own costumes!
BEING PART OF A COMMUNITY
Bellydance classes are a non-competitive, supportive and encouraging environment. All of your classmates are willing you to do well. You’ll meet dancers from other schools, and they’ll be excited to meet another bellydancer. The Bellydance Community really is a unique and special tribe, and it's one you’ll love to be part of.
