TAHT AL-QAMAR
Under the Moon

The Taht Al-Qamar Cabaret Projects are a dynamic duo of annual Cabaret Shows that expose audiences to both traditional Middle-Eastern dance and boundary-pushing fusion performed by advanced level students and semi-professional entertainers.

The Matinee Cabaret is a ‘pure' Bellydance Cabaret, celebrating culture, community and artistry. A fun, family-friendly event with a focus on sharing joy and connection, presenting traditional, classical and modern dances.

The fusion-centred That’s Not Bellydance! Cabaret provides audiences an opportunity to experience the synthesis of tradition and contemporary stylings. You will be inspired by deep explorations, along with a heavy dose of cheek, sass and entertainment.

These shows are curated by performers, offering them an additional opportunity to present new works, and revisit old favourites.

TAHT AL-QAMAR: Matinee Cabaret

The 2027 Matinee Cabaret Project will run during the Monday 7:45-8:55PM time slot from mid-Term 3 2026 (after the Annual Showcase) through Term 4 2026 and finishing in Term 1 2027 with a performance in late March (date TBA).

With guidance from Sam, you will be working with fellow performers to:

  • determine themes, styles and mood for the show

  • create and adapt choreographies to suit

  • collaborate on costuming and music choices

  • work on musicality and improvisation skills

  • work on stagecraft and improving confidence in performance

  • write performer bios and introductions

  • invite guest stars whose performance style will suit the production

  • have an opportunity to revisit previously performed pieces and explore new styles.

This Production Class is best suited to high-intermediate and advanced level dancers who enjoy performance, and are keen to work both independently and cooperatively to create a warm, joyful experience of middle-eastern dance for their audience.

Secure your participation by registering for this class in Term 3. If you have questions, please contact Sam or have a chat after your regular class.
